Entry Task On a ½ sheet of paper, write your name, and answer these questions. 1-2 sentences each: What is the age of the narrator in “Marigolds” What is the context of the narrator in “Marigolds” What is the preference(s) of the narrator in “Marigolds”

Review Chart on Page 23 Turn and talk with your partner – compare your examples of diction and imagery. What do you notice? Same? Different? Talk about your observations and inferences! Add to your notes as you and your partner talk Until 12:37

Review Chart Cont. Look at the left column of the chart (the pre-filled in part). What do you notice? What stays the same all the way throughout the story? What changes? When? Why?

Pre-Write for TW Today is VERY IMPORTANT for you!
Review the writing prompt on page 24. Turn each part of the prompt into a question, and write an answer for each. Find evidence to support each of your answers. Organize your answers and evidence into essay form – beginning, middle, end & transitions.

Marigolds TW Prompt: Describe the voice of the narrator. Then, explain how the writer’s diction and imagery create this voice. Expectations: Multi-paragraph essay with a beginning, some middles, and an end Begin with a clear thesis for your position Support your thesis throughout your essay with evidence from the text Organize your writing intentionally

Clean rubric Final essay Pre-writing work “Speak” timed write with rubric Reminder – Tomorrow is our first Book Club Wednesday! Bring your book and be ready to talk with your peers
