Ms. Smith’s Expectations
Students are expected to cooperate with me, each other, and anyone else who enters our classroom. Students should try their best on every task presented to them, even if it is new or difficult.
12
When a student is asked to do something or reminded of a rule, she or he is expected to do it with out argument or attitude. If a student does not understand something he/she is responsible to inform the teacher so they can solve the problem together. Students are expected to turn in their own original work, not work that has been copied from another source; this includes tests and quizzes.
13
Appropriate language is expected from all students
Appropriate language is expected from all students. Profanity, cussing, cursing, telling people to shut – up, and the term- that is so gay- are examples of language inappropriate for this class and the school as a whole. Street-talk needs to stay on the street and not be brought into class.
14
Some topics of discussion are not appropriate : dating relationships, rumors/gossip, religion, and any language that demeans a person’s gender, race, religion, orientation, county of origin, disability, appearance, family, skin color, etc. are restricted from this classroom.
15
Classroom Procedures Entering and Preparing for Class:
* When entering the classroom, do so quietly and calmly. * Take care of pencil sharpening, getting books, and paper, and turning in homework as soon as you enter. * Copy the class work, homework, and other information from the board into your agenda.
16
* The date is on the left side of the board; important information on the far right side of the board, and the daily assignment schedule next to it. * Assignments for Reading 1st and 2nd periods will be written in red, Language Arts 3rd period in green, and Earth Science 4th period in blue. * When turning in assignments they go on the wire cart in the back of the room – Reading on top, Lang. Arts 2nd shelf, and Science 3rd shelf
17
Inner Workings of Our Class
Asking and Answering Questions: * If you have a question, please raise your hand and wait to be called on even if you know the answer. * Answers yelled out will be ignored. * If I ask a student to answer a question that student needs to at least try his or her best.
18
The Right Time: * Keep any trash at your desk until the end of class or until you are working on individual work. When I am giving directions or going over something all students should be in their seats. * Pencils should be sharpened at the beginning of the period. If the lead breaks raise your hand to sharpen it unless individual work is occurring. Hand sharpeners are located by the sink.
19
Assignments should be turned in at the beginning or end of class
* Assignments should be turned in at the beginning or end of class. Assignments may be turned in during class as directed but never during instruction. Papers: * All papers and assignments students need to turn in need to be correctly headed and written in pencil, or blue or black ink. * Assignments turned in without a heading, torn, tattered, or in different-colored ink will be returned to be corrected/rewritten.
20
* Papers without names on them will go into the trash; this is middle school and all students should have their names on their papers. Making Up Assignments: * Each student has a folder on the left side of the classroom in a red pocket. Most missing assignments will be in those folders unless a test is missed. Students have 5 days in which to turn in missing work.
21
If a test is missed special arrangements may need to be made
* If a test is missed special arrangements may need to be made. Since tests may not be taken at home, students may need to come in during P.E., afterschool, or during lunch. * Make-up work should be turned in where class and homework is turned in. Tests should be given to me unless otherwise instructed.
22
Talking During Class: * There is to be no talking while I am instructing the class. There will be times students can work together and talking is expected but it should be on topic. Rest Room Breaks: * For most classes I will direct students to go during class. At other times students need to go between classes.
23
Borrowing Supplies: * If you do not have paper, ask for a piece as you come in the classroom, do not wait until class starts to get paper. * To borrow a pencil, you must give up something for collateral, something of yours to hold while you have one of my pencils. When the pencil is returned whatever you gave for collateral will be returned. Shoes and clothing you are wearing are not acceptable for collateral, money, folders, etc. are.
24
My Desk: * Students are prohibited from taking things off my desk and putting materials on my desk without permission. * On some occasions I will have students turn work in on my desk in a specific area; if the assignments are put some place else it may not be graded on time.
25
* Students who feel they need to talk to me need to raise their hands and wait to be called on instead of walking up to me. If a student feels she or he is not understanding the material or needs extra help I am willing to stay after school for extra tutoring. I need a day’s notice before staying after and prior arrangements need to be made for transportation.
