3 Section 16 – 3 Objectives Explain the reason for the Nazi persecution of the Jews and the problems faced by Jewish refugees. Describe the ‘final solution’ devised by the Nazis and the horrors associated with its implementation. Identify and describe the effects of the Holocaust on the survivors.

4 Why didn’t France and Britain accept as many German Jews as they might have?
Both France and Britain were worried that taking anymore would fuel and increase anti-Semitism feelings at home. Neither country wanted anymore than they already allowed into their country’s.

5 What did the Nuremberg laws do?
Stripped the Jews of their civil rights and property if they tried to leave Germany. Forced the Jews to wear a bright yellow Star of David (Jewish star) sewn to their clothes so that they could be easily identified.

6 What happened during “Kristallnacht”?
Gangs of Nazi storm troopers attacked Jewish houses, businesses and synagogues. Forces Jews to pay for clean up and repair of damages.

12 Why didn’t the U.S. accept as many German Jews as it might have?
Concerned about widespread anti – Semitism. Desire to avoid greater competition for jobs during the Depression. Increased fear of “enemy agents” coming to the country.

14 How did the Nazis go about exterminating the approximately 11 million people who did in the Holocaust? The Nazis shot, beat, starved, gasses, and hanged their victims. They also worked them to death. Performed experiments on them, including injecting them with poison gas and deliberatively killing them through “medical” experiments.
