GIS Gaps Analysis - progress
Amber Dismer, MPH
2
Collecting GPS coordinates of nutrition service sites: settings
Map Datum – WGS 84 (unless country specific) Coordinate Reference System (latitude /longitude in decimal degrees) Navigation Units: metric/ km North reference - Magnetic
3
Collection of Nutrition Site Services’ GPS coordinates
It’s feasible –complete once, with updates yearly or as needed Modeled off of existing guidance [HeRAMS, Master Health Facility Lists] Link collected GPS information/ minimum nutrition information to existing nutrition site level database sent monthly to cluster coordinator Nutrition Cluster websites & Humanitarian Data Exchange– suggested distribution locations for site location information

Online server – Kobo Tools

Anticipated concerns Feasibility [requires short training, tech, possible for mobile clinics? Partner with other clusters?] Technology unavailable [smart phone/ tablet/ GPS unit] Safety: Data could be used for targeted attacks: Ex. health facilities in Syria on OSM Nigeria – safety in OTP mobile clinics in unsecure areas

Global SMART survey results
Prevalence of acute malnutrition among children ages 0 to 59 months from the SMART Survey conducted July-August 2017 was measured at domain level (ex. Southern Borno) not LGA level. Minimum requirements: Date of SMART survey Age of children (0 – 59 months or 6 – 59 months) included in survey Confidence Intervals of point estimates Labels spelled out once: Severe Acute Malnutrition and Global Acute Malnutrition Domain of survey at which estimate is valid (state level not LGA) Data from last 12 months is most relevant for decision use Nice additions Inaccessibility areas Nutrition service sites for IMAM [indicate validity date – ex. July 2017] Indication of whether a point estimate is statistically significantly higher or lower than a previous’ round point estimate

Global Acute Malnutrition
Future piloting : Create GNC template In QGIS (.prj) In ArcGIS (.mxd) 2-3 page SOP for creation

SMART SURVEY RESULT COMPARISON
* Oleg Bilukha, MD, PhD – contact with any questions * DOMAIN [GEOGRAPHIC UNIT] IS THE SAME ONLY THE SAMPLE SIZE AND THE PREVALENCE ARE REPORTED FOR THE SAME DOMAIN. SIGNIFICANT IF THE P-VALUE IS <0.05 (this is for the 2 sided test)

* Oleg Bilukha, MD, PhD – contact with any questions * DOMAIN [GEOGRAPHIC UNIT] IS THE SAME * no reported design effect ONLY THE SAMPLE SIZE AND THE PREVALENCE ARE REPORTED FOR THE SAME DOMAIN. SIGNIFICANT IF THE P-VALUE IS <0.05 (this is for the 2 sided test)

Children under 5 years with severe acute malnutrition in need of lifesaving treatment as of August 2017 SAM targeted and reached (Jan – Aug) SAM targeted and not reached (Jan – Aug) SAM in need, not targeted Add total PiN for SAM as in box on left for total area Consider adding PiN for SAM in circle center

Relies on definition decisions
PiN for nutrition was 82% of total persons in each 1km2 cell * People in Need (each square multiplied by 82% of total) per the HRP in 2017 Use population structure for admin 1 (or lower if available) (% of children 0 to 69 months of total population) ~ 20%

General Legend Guidance
Date of data source [SMART survey conducted July-August 2017] Age of population measured for indicator [boys ages 0 to 59 months; women ages ] Geographic domain which estimate applies to [ex. survey domain was the state level, but wards are included for reference. Number of admissions per site reported to Nutrition Cluster in March 2018.] Acronyms – spell out once on map, then use abbreviations. If limited space, use notes. [Blanket supplemental feeding programme- BSFP] Classes – provide both the severity designation (ex. Critical) and the values used to split the data into classes (>=5.0%) Placement – ensure legend does not cover main country of interest/ adjust size accordingly.
