Alexander’s military training not wasted When Thebes rebelled, Alexander destroyed city (killed 6000) Alexander carries out fathers plan 334 BCE- Invades Persia with 35,000 soldiers Smashes Persians defenses Victories over Persia and King Darius III allow Alexander to control Anatolia Darius tries to negotiate peace settlement Alexander rejects peace offering Planned to conquer entire Persian Empire Alexander victory at Gaugamela ended Persian Power 3
