Academic Performance Index (API)
API is a state measure that summarizes schools and LEAs performance on the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program. The API is a single number, ranging from a low of 200 to a high of 1000, that reflects schools, LEAs, and subgroups performance levels, based on the results of statewide testing. Its purpose is to measure the academic performance and growth of schools and districts. State Law also requires a similar school ranking that is not currently available for The API is based on an improvement model. It is used to measure the academic growth of a school. The API from one year is compared to the API from the prior year to measure improvement. Each school has an annual target, and all numerically significant subgroups at a school also have targets. The API requires subgroup accountability to address the achievement gaps that exist between traditionally higher- and lower-scoring student subgroups. The API is a cross-sectional look at student achievement. It does not track individual student progress across years but rather compares snapshots of school or LEA level achievement results from one year to the next. The API is used to rank schools. A school is compared to other schools statewide and to 100 other schools that have similar demographic characteristics. The API is currently a school-based requirement only under state law. However, API reports are provided for LEAs in order to meet federal requirements under ESEA. Assessment Results Used In the API The information that forms the basis for calculating the API comes from the results of the STAR Program and the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE). The PSAA requires that test results constitute at least 60 percent of the API. The chart on the next page shows the assessment results that are used in API calculations. Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
By law, all school districts across the nation receive annual AYP results. Each year, schools and school districts must meet four sets of requirements to make AYP: Student Participation Rate on Statewide Tests Percentage of Students Scoring at The Proficient Level or Above in English Language Arts and Mathematics on Statewide Tests API Growth (California) Graduation Rate Numerically significant groups of students at a school or school district also must meet participation rate and percent proficient requirements Requirement 1: Participation Rate Requirement 2: Percent Proficient—AMOs Requirement 3: API as an Additional Indicator Requirement :4 Graduation Rate Requirements 1 and 2 apply at the school, LEA, and subgroup levels. Requirements 3 and 4 apply only at the school and LEA levels.

Four Year AYP Trend
9
AYP Trends for ELA by Major Subgroups
Since the AYP targets for High Schools are based on the 10th grade CAHSEE and CAPA, SHHS does not have a large enough subgroup population for AYP calculations. Likewise, since only the 2nd grade students are tested at the primary school, the subgroups are not large enough for AYP calculations. RLS made the ELA targets for the Hispanic subgroup but not the math. The District did not meet either targets and SHES missed the target in ELA, but made the target in math through a two year average.

Program Improvement Year Two
Implement the LEAP addendum developed last year. Districts in PI are required to set-aside Title I dollars for the following activities: Parent Involvement - 1% ($1,294) Staff Development -10% ($10,294)
