What’s Happening in First Grade
Spanish Phrase of the Week is:
Sabe escuchar (Good listener)
Inquiry into Math: We have begun our work in Cluster 2. This week, we will conduct our investigation of the commutative and associative properties of addition.
Inquiry into Literacy: We will share a cute story about a fun loving tractor named Otis, written by Loren Long. We will: make predictions, practice retell, identify character traits and share our opinions of our favorite part of the story. We will study Letterland Unit 4: Sort words according to rhyme patterns:
-ock, -op, and-ot (example: rock, hop, and hot). We will also learn the phonic fable for
-sh. We will have our test on Friday.
Writer’s Workshop: We will continue to plan how to write a narrative. This week, we will look to make sure our practice piece contains: the word I, uses good details, is based on a real-life event that happened to us and is told in sequence.
Inquiry into Science: We will continue our unit of study on Rocks and Minerals. We will be exploring the rock cycle.

Our Field Trip to see the Pete the Cat show is coming up soon!!! Please be sure to sign and return your child’s permission slip and send in payment. All payments are due by Friday, October 5. Makes checks payable to CCE or pay online!
Reading homework will begin next week. Please look for more detailed information to be sent home with your child or communicated by their teacher via !
Fall pictures are scheduled for Thursday, October 4. Order info was sent home in your child’s folder.
