Three things must be present to produce fire:
Oxygen Heat Fuel

Class A-wood, paper, cloth, trash, plastics.
Class B-Flammable liquids, gasoline, grease, oil, acetone Class C-Energized electrical equipment Class D-Metals, potassium, sodium, magnesium, aluminum

APW Fire Extinguishers
Air-pressurized water Large, silver filled with 2/3 water Pressurized with water 2 ft. tall and weigh approximately 25 lbs. Class “A” fires only APWs remove heat

CO2 Fire Extinguishers Filled with non-flammable carbon dioxide gas
Recognize by horn and lack of pressure gauge 5lbs. to over 100lbs. B and C fires only Can cause freeze burns

Dry Chemical AB and ABC ratings
Coats fuel with a fine layer of powder agent such as: monoammonium phosphate Nitrogen is the typical pressurizing agent

Assist persons in immediate danger
Activate alarms, if present Then, use fire extinguisher on insipient-stage fires only

Never fight a fire if: You don’t know what is burning
If the fire is out of control and/or is spreading rapidly You don’t have the right equipment You might inhale smoke or otherwise put yourself in a dangerous situation If, for any reason you’re not comfortable with the fire or prevailing conditions
