To add integers with the same sign, add their absolute values.
The sum is:
Positive if both integers are positive
Negative if both integers are negative
7 + 3 = 10
-7 + (-3) = -10

4. Use counters to add 3 + 4 = ?.
ANSWER = 7

5. Use counters to add -2 + -4 = ?.
ANSWER = -6

To add integers with a different sign, subtract their absolute values.
The sum is:
Positive if the positive integer’s absolute value is greater
Negative if the integers are negative
7 + (-3) = 4
= -4

You are finding the difference even though it is an addition problem.
Keep the sign of the bigger number
9 + (-3) = 6
= -4

8. Use counters to add - 2 + 4 = ?.
