Physics Section 1.1 Physics is the study of the relationship between matter and energy. Fields of Physics Mechanics - large particle motion and its causes Thermodynamics – heat and temperature Vibrations / Waves - specific repetitive motion Optics – behavior of light Electromagnetism – electricity and magnetism Relativity – behavior of very high speed particles Quantum Mechanics – behavior of subatomic particles

Science is the search for relationships between observed phenomenon.
Science is more than a collection of facts, just as a house is more than a collection of bricks” Find the pattern. What is the next term? O,T,T,F,F,S,S,E,… O,T,T,F,F,S,S,E,N,… O,T,T,F,F,S,S,E,N,T,… O,T,T,F,F,S,S,E,N,T,E,… O,T,T,F,F,S,S,E,N,T,E,T,…

Scientific Method 1. Make observations and collect data to formulate a
question. 2. Formulate and test a hypothesis (reasonable explanation). 3. Interpret the results and revise the hypothesis if necessary. 4. State the conclusion in a form that can be evaluated and tested by others. Experiment: Does a heavy object fall faster than a lighter object?

Many scientific principles are described by the use of a model.
A model is a pattern, plan, representation, or description designed to show the structure of an object, system, or concept. It can used to build a hypothesis. Model of an atom
