Surprises on Judgment Day
We have a tendency to think of surprises as good things, pleasant things…gifts, parties etc. But if we are honest with ourselves, we have had as many if not many more unpleasant surprises as pleasant ones. I want to discuss the ultimate surprise that is coming for all… And even though you (and all mankind) have been warned about it, it will still surprise many…(Click rest of sentence) That is, Judgment Day (next slide)

"Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation." John The Lord Himself had more to say about the Judgment Day than anyone else. He will be the Judge, and He spent His life seeing that awful day in the future for us all. He warned on many occasions, as in this next passage (next slide)

"Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord…
And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' " Matthew Not only will there be a surprise for those who thought they were servants of the Lord… (next slide)

Some are going to be surprised at…
But there will be surprises for many more… There will be some who will be surprised at…(next slide)

Fact of Judgment Day “No God, no Judgment?” Psalm 14.1 Rom. 1.20
2 Peter 3.3-6 …The Fact of the Judgment (Next) Many don’t believe in God. (Next) Psalm The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good. If “no God” – no Judgment? They ignore evidence of His existence (Next) Rom For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, Evidence of His dealing with a sinful generation in the Flood (Next) 2 Peter knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation." 5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.

Timing of Judgment Day Not when it is expected Matthew 24.42, 44
As a thief in the night 1 Thessalonians 5.2 2 Peter 3.10 The “coming of the Lord” in Judgment will be a sudden and unexpected thing. Matthew 24 often used to prove we can know when He is coming in judgment…but it says: Mat "Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. Mat "Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. The “coming of the Lord” in Judgment will be like a thief in the night (1 Th 5:2 NKJV) For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. (2 Pet 3:10 NKJV) But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

Purpose of Judgment Day
Judge in righteousness Acts 17.31 All our deeds, public and secret Romans 2.16 (Acts 17:31 NKJV) "because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.“ (Rom 2:16 NKJV) in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.

Severity of Judgment Day
The Standard – John 12.48 No excuses No appeal Heaven or Hell – Romans Words of Jesus will be standard No excuses “My dog ate my Bible.” Honesty and sincerity no defense Heaven on hell (Rom 2:5-11 NKJV) But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, {6} who "will render to each one according to his deeds": {7} eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; {8} but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness; indignation and wrath, {9} tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; {10} but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. {11} For there is no partiality with God.

Finality of Judgment Day
Everlasting 2 Thessalonians 1.8-9 Revelation 20.10 Luke 16.24 (2 Th 1:8-9 NKJV) in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. {9} These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, (Rev 20:10 NKJV) The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. (Luke 16:24 NKJV) "Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'

Surprises on Judgment Day
There will be a very pleasant surprise for some on Judgment Day. (Rom 8:1 NKJV) There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. (1 John 4:17 NKJV) Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.
