EMPHASIS Used to create dominance and focus
Artists can emphasize color, value, shape, etc. to achieve dominance. Various kinds of contrast can emphasize a center of interest.

MOVEMENT Directs viewers along lines, edges, shapes, and colors
Moves the eye easily on paths of equal value Visual movement usually to a focal area.

RHYTHM Repetition of visual movement: colors, shapes, or lines
Variety is essential to keep the rhythm exciting and active. Movement and Rhythm work together to create the visual equivalent of a musical beat.

CONTRAST Refers to differences in values, colors, textures, shapes, etc. Adds visual excitement and interest If all the art elements are the same, it is monotonous.

BALANCE Refers to the distribution of visual “weight”
It is the visual equilibrium of the elements of design.

Similar repeated motifs lead to pattern. Increases visual excitement
