Maryland Lord Baltimore: A roman catholic, wished to escape religious persecution.

Carolina Carolina becomes North Carolina and South Carolina.
King Charles II gave land to 8 lord proprietors in thanks for help in restoring his throne after civil war. Named Carolina, from Carolus, or Latin for Charles.

Carolina cont.. The southern part of the colony grew more prosperous than the northern part. In 1712, the colony officially split into North and South Carolina.

Georgia Started by a group of Englishmen called the Georgia Trustees.
First leader, James Oglethorpe, arrived in 1733 with 35 families. Officially becomes a royal colony in 1752 Vocab: Plantations: A large farm on which crops are grown for sale and on which the people who raise the crops live.
