5 Times Tables These need to be learnt by heart.

6 Column Addition 2536 +1787 4323 1 1 1 This includes decimals and adding more than four digit numbers

7 Column Subtraction 53413 2 0 4 This includes decimals and subtracting up to 2 four digit numbers

8 Long Multiplication 43 X32 86 1290 1376 This includes multiplying a 3 digit by a 2 digit number

9 Short Division For trickier tables we encourage the children to write the times table down the side of their page. They need to be able to convert remainders in the answer into a decimal and a fraction. 7 5 8 r2 e.g /5 or

10 Bar Model Together, Sophie and Lauren had £ Sophie had £6.60 more than Lauren. How much did Lauren have? HINT We know that, if Sophie did not have the £6.60 extra, both girls would have the same.

11 Reading Please listen to your child read as often as you can.
Ask them questions - Directly from the text (key points) - Inference questions (how does the character feel? How do you know?) We are focusing on PEEL Point (state your point) Evidence (where is the evidence) Explain (this means that…) Link (Earlier in the book, I know that)

12 Writing They need to always plan what they are going to write.
Think about using a range of openers (using fronted adverbials, putting dependent clauses at the beginning of a sentence) Think about using a range of punctuation (including semi colons, commas, hyphens, brackets) Think about using a range of conjunctions Most importantly, they need to edit their writing. Do they have any words missing? Can they use a better word? Conjunction? Spellings!
