Verbal Irony When a person says or writes one thing and means another, or uses words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of the literal meaning. When you say one thing but actually mean something else Sarcasm is a form of this.

Situational Irony Situational irony occurs when the expected outcome does not happen. This is also called an irony of events. The outcome can be serious or humorous.

Dramatic Irony The audience knows more about a situation than the character does.
