Good evening I am ____________________ , Assistant Principal. I am speaking to you as Mr. Albrecht is greeting the ninth grade parents. You have already met him so he has sent us to speak with you. I am thrilled to have all students with us and as you know high school is perhaps the most important transition phase of our lives. We will be sharing a lot of information and several important dates. We have broken you up by grade level so we can tailor information to each grade level. 3 We want to remind you that all of our work at KR is aligned with the district’s strategic plan. The strategic plan can be accessed through the KSD website if you are interested in more information.

In the past college conjured images of ivy covered campuses but today Certificated and credential programs Two year degrees from community or technical colleges Rigorous apprenticeships Four year degree from baccalaureate institutions WORK

9 Sophomore Counselor Information
Academic: individual planning, course selection, interventions for struggling students College/Career: interest inventories through Naviance and College Board, collaboration with Career Specialist, post-secondary options Personal/Social: crisis response, problem-solving skill-building, referrals to outside resources

10 Grad Requirements Sophomore and Junior
This is something that you were introduced to two years ago. 24 credits, CP and state tests as shown. This is available on-line.

12 What Does Naviance Offer Our Students?
Success Planning – Provides tools to allow students to set goals and school staff to create plans that focus students on the future. Career Planning – Provides students with tools that help them make better academic decisions. College Planning – Research tools available in Family Connection that help students find colleges that are the right fit. Course Planner – Helps students make course choices based on their college and career goals. eDocs – Electronic college application tool.

13 How Do Students Use Naviance During the School Day?
High School Advisory Periods Naviance Lessons and Follow Up are inserted into the Advisory Lesson Schedule. Most activities can be easily completed in a 30 minute timeframe. Laptop access makes it easy for students to complete Naviance activities or re-visit them outside of class if needed. Counselor Led Sessions in Classrooms Course Planning, Registration, College Application Process, Scholarship Searching Teacher Led Lessons Many Naviance activities fit nicely into existing curriculum.

17 Math Learning Lab will be after school Tuesdays and Thursdays.
If your child does not complete a Math formative assignment, your child will be recommended to Math Learning Lab for assistance. Math Learning Lab will be after school Tuesdays and Thursdays. If your child is missing summative work, your child needs to see their teacher to make a plan for completing the work. Sam

18 Learning First Schedule
Lunch at 11:40 Dismissal at 12:20 Buses leave at 12:27 Teacher collaboration 12:20-2:40pm This year we are transitioning to the Learning First Schedule with Wednesday Early Release Days. Thank you for your support in this transition as it supports increased teacher collaboration time to support your child’s learning. We would also like to highlight that due to most meeting being held on Wednesdays, teachers are more available to support students after school on the other days.
