Know how to reference electronic publications Identify the importance of referencing electronic publications Referencing online resources or electronic publications differs slightly from printed sources as it is possible that websites and online sources are removed. Therefore when referencing online materials used within our work, it is important for us to refer to dates and times. Students should be able to identify this by the end of the session.

Websites WEBSITE name if no author is available, (Year - in brackets). Title of website in italics or underlined. [Online in square brackets] Available at: URL. (Accessed: followed by date in brackets). For example: NHS Evidence, National Library of Guidelines. [online] Available at: < (Accessed 10 October 2009).

How do we reference these? (what is the format?)
PDF (Portable Document File) Authorship, Year. Title of document. [PDF] Place of publication (if known): Publisher. Followed by Available at: include web address or URL for the actual pdf, where available (Accessed date). For example: Department of Health, Health inequalities: progress and next steps. [pdf] London: Department of Health. Available at: < Guidance/DH_085307> (Accessed 9 June 2008).

News Article Author or corporate author, (Year). Title of document or page. Name of newspaper, [type of medium] additional date information. Available at: URL (Accessed date). For example: BBC News N.Ireland, (2014). 'Significant' rise in health and social care concerns. BBC News, [Online News Article] last updated 18th September 2014 at 09.21am.
