When Japan surrendered at the end of WWII, all their territories were taken from them
At the end of WWII the Allies divided up the Peninsula of Korea at the 38th Parallel.
U.S. took possession of the Southern half

1949- Soviets give North Korea tanks, airplanes and money to take over the entire peninsula
June 25th, North Korea crosses 38th parallel in a surprise attack on South Korea

South Korea asks UN for assistance
UN Security Council meets and decides to send troops to aid Korea.
Soviets Boycott the UN- could have vetoed the UN decision to intervene

7. General MacArthur
asks for nuclear attack
against Chinese cities
President Truman disagrees:
“we are trying to prevent a world war, not start one”
MacArthur goes over Truman's head and goes to congress and the press to get support
Truman Fires MacArthur in response
