Relative Adverbs A relative adverbs is an adverb that introduces a relative clause. A relative clause adds more information about the noun. They relate back to a time, place, or reason to provide more details about a noun.

The most common relative adverbs are:
when, where, why Adverb Refers to where place when time why reason

When Relative Adverbs When refers to a time.
Example: I can’t remember a time when I was so happy! With your partner or group, come up with a sentence that correctly uses the relative adverb When.

Where Relative Adverbs Where refers to a place.
Example: That is the house where we grew up. With your partner or group, come up with a sentence that correctly uses the relative adverb Where.

Why Relative Adverbs Why refers to a reason.
Example: I don’t know the reason why Bryce is not at school. With your partner or group, come up with a sentence that correctly uses the relative adverb Why.
