What does it mean? Our text book glossary (p. R104) defines connotation as: *An attitude or feeling associated with a word, in contrast to the word’s denotation (literal, or dictionary meaning). The connotations of a word may be positive or negative.

Examples Enthusiastic has positive associations.
Rowdy has negative associations.
