Comparing Place and Location
Place: unique feature of a location aka SITE Human characteristics Religion, diet, language, development, etc. Physical characteristics Water sources, weather, climate, landforms, etc. Location: position that something occupies on Earth Place name: toponym Situation Mathematical location

Mathematical (Absolute) Location: Coordinates

Situation: location relative to other places
Valuable for 2 reasons: (1.) Finding unfamiliar places (2.) Understanding importance of a location

Combination of features that give each place a distinctive character H and P features Answers the question: “what does it look like?”
