Zapotec
Lived in northern Mexico and developed first urban center (had some Olmec influences)
Teotihuacan
First major civilization in Central Mexico
Largest city in the world at one time
Ruins remain just outside Mexico City

7. Other Early Civilizations
Toltecs
Warlike people based on conquest and worshiped war god who demanded human sacrifice
Later ruler tried to change religion to worship of Quetzalcoatl, a God of peace that would someday return
Driven into exile on Yucatan Peninsula where they would influence Mayan and Aztec culture and religion
