2 1. What is Jacksonian Democracy?

3 Jacksonian democracy – This was the idea of spreading political power to all the people and ensuring majority rule.

Jackson and John Adams had a horrific presidency campaign. Attacking one another on personal levels and going at each other families. In the end Jackson won the presidency and became known as the people’s president. Have we seen any thing like this in today's presidential elections.

Jackson was known as the people’s president because he was a war hero from Tennessee. He had struggles throughout his life and was taken as a prisoner who served time in jail. This made people sympathetic to him.

12 Native Americans By 1800, the US had forced most Indians to the Western lands. There were about 100,000 still remaining in the East. Most living Southeast toward Florida. They held large pieces of land and regulars were scared of their savage life's.

13 Cherokee Nation 6. What was the Cherokee Nation and what caused their conflict with America?

14 Cherokee Nation The Cherokee nation developed a constitution just like the united States and owned land in Georgia, North and South Carolina. They found gold and were forced out of the land because the US wanted it for themselves.

16 Indian Removal Act of 1830 The Indian Removal act forced all native American’s to move West of the Mississippi or they had to conform to the state laws. If they refused to, then they would be punished. It also said congress had to negotiate treaties to remove Indians.

18 The trail of tears is the trail taken by the Indians on their way West to their new homeland given to them by the United States. Federal officers forced the Indians to sign a treaty and move West. It is called the trail of tears because many Indians lost their lives along the way or got kidnapped into slavery.

20 The Indian territories consisted of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska
The Indian territories consisted of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska. The US did not see much need for this land so they gave it to them.

22 There were several Indian revolts
There were several Indian revolts. One main one was led by an Indian named Chief Osceola. Osceola led many attacks in the everglades. He was eventually tricked and captured by the US Army. Chief Black Hawk also led a rebellion but it was crushed and forced more Indians to move West.
