The Work of the Church Many religious minded people have lost sight of the unique purpose for the Lord’s church. Because the result of being a Christian can bring about social & moral changes in the lives of sinners, some have reversed the order by making these benefits become the primary goal of the church.

A spiritual building made up of Christians (1 Cor. 3:9, ) Made up of “living stones” (1 Pet. 2:5) Dwelling place of God through the Spirit (Eph. 2:19-22) Is the house of God built by Christ (Mt. 16:18) The “pillar and ground of the truth” (1 Tim. 3:15) Christ loved the church & gave Himself for it (Eph. 5:25) He purchased it with His own blood (Acts 20:28)

What is the church? The church is the spiritual body of saved people (Acts 2:47). One becomes a member by a spiritual birth (Jn. 3:3-5; 1 Pet. 1:22-23) All spiritual blessings are enjoyed by its members (Eph. 1:3) They offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God (1 Pet. 2:5) A spiritual home in heaven is their desire (2 Cor. 5:1-4; Phil. 3:20-21)

What is the Purpose of the Church?
The church is a body of people who join together to work for God and worship Him. In the vineyard (Mt. 20:1-16), we are “laborers together with God” (1Cor. 3:9). Within a given area a group of Christians are organized into a local body, independent in government from all other local churches (Phil. 1:1). Elders lead a local work in its work (1 Pet. 5:1-4; Acts 14:23; 20:28).

Conclusion The church has a holy mission which is unique in the world.
Although individual Christians may engage in many good activities, the church may not involve itself in every activity just because it is morally right. The energy & resources of the church must be used distinctively for the mission of saving souls for eternity.
