As a child, I was beaten regularly by my father and was once beaten into a 2-day coma I was once a homeless beggar I almost froze to death while sleeping on the streets but was saved by a Jewish charity group I fought in WWI I developed the prototype for the Volkswagen Beetle I was a vegetarian I suffered from insomnia, depression, hypertension, headaches, heart trouble, two episodes of blindness, and Parkinson’s disease There were seventeen attempts on my life

Adolf Hitler was born on April 20th, 1889 in Braunau-am-Inn, Austria Alois, Adolf’s father, worked as a customs officer on the border crossing between Austria and Germany Klara, Adolf’s mother, gave birth to four other children, Gustav, Ida, and Edmund *These three siblings all died in their childhood* The fourth and youngest sibling, Paula, survived to outlive Hitler Adolf’s father died when he was thirteen and his mother raised him and Paula on her own, until she died of cancer when Adolf was nineteen

5 EARLY BIOGRAPHY Hitler grew up with a poor record at school and left, before completing all credits, with an ambition to become an artist Between sixteen and nineteen, young Adolf did not work or formally study He did however, develop his interest in politics and history during this time His application for admission to the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts was unsuccessful

7 HITLER BIOGRAPHY After Hitler’s mother died, he had no relatives who were able or willing to support him He moved to Vienna, hoping to somehow earning a living. Within a year he was living in homeless shelters and eating at charity soup-kitchens. In 1913, and still a penniless vagrant, Hitler moved to Munich in southern Germany. With the outbreak of WWI, he volunteered for service in the German army and was accepted Hitler fought bravely in the war, was promoted to corporal, and was a decorated soldier

8 HITLER BIOGRAPHY After WWI, Hitler was asked to become part of a local army organization which was responsible for persuading returning soldiers not to turn to communism or pacifism Part of his duty was to spy on local political groups, and after having delivered a heated speech to the German Worker’s Party, he was asked to join This party was renamed the National Socialist German Workers Party (NAZI for short) Given responsibility for publicity and propaganda, Hitler first succeeded due to outstanding oratory skills and passionate speeches Hitler expanded his influence, and formed a private group of thugs which he used to quash disorder at party meetings and break up rival party's meetings. This group was named the Sturmabteilung or S.A. : Hitler's brown shirted storm troopers.

Until the Nazis used this symbol, the swastika was used by many cultures to represent life, sun, power, strength, and good luck For Hitler, the new flag had to be “a symbol of our own struggle” as well as “highly effective as a poster” By 1921 Hitler had secured total control of the Nazi party Hitler forced all committee members to accept him as the formal leader with dictatorial powers
