3 Why Go to Uganda? Need vs. Opportunity Unreached Peoples
Ryan and Jillian Johnson Why Go to Uganda? Need vs. Opportunity Unreached Peoples Need vs. Opportunity – Everyone shares an equally desperate need for Jesus’ substitutionary work on the cross. Not everyone has an equal opportunity to hear about Jesus’ finished work. (this answers the question “but what about all the needs here?”) A distinct people group in Uganda (the Batwa) has a population of 3700 which is roughly half the population of Farmington where Ryan and I grew up. The difference is that Farmington has 5 churches plus access to many other nearby churches in surrounding towns and cities, 4 nearby Christian schools, and at least 50 English Bible translations. In the town of Kisoro where we will be there is only one church and not enough workers to reach all of the people to tell them about Jesus. Most of them cannot read or write the local language so even though they have the Bible in their own language, they are only able to hear it spoken. Equal needs but not an equal opportunity. Unreached Peoples - we call people groups like this unreached, meaning the Christian presence in relationship to the population whole is less than 3%, making it difficult for all to hear the Gospel.

5 Our Response Joined Pioneers initially Anglican Diocese in New England
Ryan and Jillian Johnson Our Response Joined Pioneers initially Anglican Diocese in New England Crossing the Divide Connection Points Communicate the Gospel Our Response: Joined Pioneers, but ultimately went away from them and joined the Anglican Diocese in New England and their vision. Crossing the Divide - culture and language have formed an invisible boundary that prevents the Gospel from moving between different people groups. Our starting point in Uganda will be to learn their language and culture. We will be able to learn some culture from Ugandans in the Boston area. The local language is called Fumbira. Connection Points – Ways of intentionally connecting with the people. Ryan – vocational training school, Jillian – connecting with children’s and women’s ministry projects with the local diocese, both will be working in the Batwa community – farming/gardening, teaching trade skills, Bible studies Communicate the Gospel - ultimately our goal is to see church planting movements initiated. How will they hear unless someone tells them? This is the culmination of the 2 previous points.
