Data Management/Curation Task Force
Who we are: Laurie Taylor, Hannah Norton, Rolando Garcia-Milian, Denise Bennett, Val Minson, Joe Aufmuth, David Schwieder, Blake Landor, Erik Deumens, Rob Ferl, Cecilia Botero Our charge: To assess needs, make recommendations, and develop support for the role of the Libraries in campus-wide data management and curation. Formed December 2012

Agricultural and Biological Engineering Electrical & Computer Engineering Classics Wildlife/Tropical Conservation & Development CLAS IT English and Film Studies Samuel Proctor Oral History Program African Studies archives Political Science Chemistry Campus-wide needs assessment survey, with 288 responses Survey: 25% faculty, 64% grad students, some staff, postdocs; all colleges except Law had at least one response

What resources outside of your department do you need to best manage and analyze your data?

What concerns do you have? Could use more formal help in establishing and maintaining databases. Data storage capacity for long term storage is inadequate. I am concerned that my data are unorganized and that I may somehow lose them. I pay a student to handle it now, but when they graduate, I may have a problem. Need additional training for data collection, management, and editing. Need more consistent processes so everyone is storing data at the highest level without having to research all of the options.
