Group 1 IB Courses These courses are for native level speakers of English and form the first language component of your IB Diploma Both are equally difficult and demanding academic courses If you are taking another language as your Lnagauge A option, you should consider English B.

Group 1 IB Courses IB English A: Language and Literature
For native level speakers of English 50% language (sociolinguistics, media literacy) 50% literature (six major literary works studied in depth) Texts chosen from a variety of sources, genres and media.

Group 1 IB Courses IB English A: Literature
For native level speakers of English Literary texts from different cultures and time periods studied in depth Students develop analytical, writing and speaking skills to a high level.

Group 2 IB Courses IB English B
A high level course for second language speakers of English English language skills developed A wide range of written and spoken material from everyday oral exchanges to literary texts Can be taken when you are studying another “A” language for your IB Diploma.

AP English Courses AP English Language and Composition
Students study rhetoric: the skillful use of language to persuade an audience of an author’s claim Students work with a wide variety of mainly non-fiction texts from the last few centuries including the array of media confronting us today Students also practice the skills of rhetoric in their own compositions This course should usually be taken before you take AP Literature and Composition in Grade 12.

High School Courses English 11
Students analyze literature and non-fiction, and learn to write effectively Vocabulary, grammar and research skills are developed Media literacy skills are also developed.
