Government is divided into three different branches. They are the Executive branch, Legislative branch, and the Judicial Branch Legislative Branch Judicial Executive Branch

Enforces The Laws Judicial Branch Interprets and Applies The Laws

4 The power of the government is separated between three branches to prevent any one branch from abusing power. This is called checks and balances. Each branch has its own power and a way to limit the power of the other branches.

5 National (Federal) Government
Legislative Branch The legislative branch is headed by Congress. Congress makes laws for the nation, approves the budget, ant approves presidential appointees Executive Branch The executive branch is headed by the President. The President executes the law of the land, prepares the budge, appoints the cabinet officers and judges and manages the nations. Judicial Branch The judicial branch includes the Supreme and Federal Courts. They have the power of judicial review. They try cases involving federal and constitutional law. Supreme Court decides if a federal practice is discriminatory President Appoints Supreme Court Judge Congress makes laws for the nation, approves the budge, ant approves presidential appointees.

State Government Legislative Branch The legislative branch is headed by the general Assembly. The General Assembly makes laws for Georgia and approves the budget Executive Branch The executive branch is headed by the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General ,and Secretary of State They execute laws, prepare the budge, and manage the state. Judicial Branch The judicial branch includes the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and Trail Courts. They try and review civil and criminal cases. State Trail Court Tries a case that involves intrastate trade The General Assembly Governor Nathan Deal

The legislative branch is headed by the County Board of Commissioners or City Council. The County Board of Commissioners or City Council handles elections, auto licenses, ordinances and budget Executive Branch The executive branch is headed by an elected Mayor or Commissioner. The Mayor or Commissioner manages the city, county, or special district. Judicial Branch The judicial branch includes the Clerk of Courts and Probate Judge. They handle record keeping and the county courts
