Who? Italian immigrants who were also anarchists who disliked all forms of govn’t.
What? Accused of robbing & murdering employees of a MA shoe factory.
Where? Massachusetts
When? 1927
Why? Because Sacco & Vanzetti were anarchists, the prosecution set an example by sentencing them to death.
This case led to further paranoia for the Fundamentalists.

What? Volunteered to teach evolution knowing the consequences would be arrest.
Where? In Tennessee
When? 1925
Why? It was outlawed in TN to teach anything that denied the story of Divine Creation.
This case led to Fundamentalists’ power in the political realm declining.
