1 11-3 Surface Area of Pyramids and Cones

2 Definitions A pyramid is a polyhedron consisting of a single base which is a polygon, and lateral faces which are triangles that meet at a single point called the vertex. The altitude (height) of the pyramid is the perpendicular distance from the vertex to the base. The slant height is the height of one of the lateral faces.

3 Right and Oblique slant height right oblique

4 Cones A cone is like a pyramid but the base is a circle.
The slant height of a cone is the distance up a side of the cone. slant height

5 Lateral Area and Surface Area for Pyramids and Cones
Half the perimeter times the slant height Lateral area plus the area of the base

6 Example l=5 Find the surface area of the square pyramid 32+42=c2 4cm

7 Example l=5 Find the surface area of the square pyramid 32+42=c2 4cm
