1 Read the poem on page 135 in your textbook and respond to the question below.
Is the poet a fan of Fannings or an adversary (opponent)? Prove your point.

5 In what specific ways did eastern and western North Carolina differ?
Eastern NC had most of the planters and other members of the gentry. Farms were large and work was done by enslaved laborers or indentured servants. Easterners generally lived in comfortable homes with fine furniture. Their clothing reflected their lifestyle. In western NC , most farms were small and worked by the families who owned them. Most people had few belongings and preferred simple dress and lifestyle.

7 Imagine you are a Regulator
Imagine you are a Regulator. Would you side with Great Britain or the Patriots in the struggle for independence? Why? The anger Regulators felt about the abuse of royal power by provincial officials representing the Crown would almost lead them to support the Patriots in the struggle for independence.

8 Why is the Regulator Movement significant?
What does it say about the relationship between the Royal government and the colonists?
