Maintaining integrity/sterility of field SCR

SCRUBBING KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Apply principles of asepsis. Identify emergency situations. Provide safe, efficient environment. Ensure patient’s rights, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality. Maintain organizational skills and manual dexterity. Perform as team member and take responsibility for own actions. SCR

CIRCULATING ROLE Responsibilities include:
provide emotional support to patient prior to anesthesia induction perform ongoing patient assessment verify accurate and complete preparation of supplies, instruments, and equipment preoperatively document patient care SCR

CIRCULATING ROLE create and maintain a safe environment
implement and enforce policies & procedures, prepare specimens coordinate nursing care from health care team members communicate information to other members of health care team and family SCR

CIRCULATING KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL
Revised AORN Competency Statements (2001) Assess health status of patient/family. Formulate nursing diagnosis. Develop plan of care. Implement nursing actions. SCR

SUMMARY Safe and effective care of the surgical patient requires a team effort. Each member of the team brings unique knowledge and skills that must be coordinated to achieve the desired patient outcomes. SCR
