- Phylum: Spirochaetae (double-membrane bacteria,
long and spiral-shaped cells)
Location of Flagella (axial filaments)
- distinguished from other bacterial phyla
- run lengthwise between the bacterial inner membrane and outer membrane
Undergo Asexual reproduction
Most are free-living and anaerobic
Chemoheterotrophic in nature

infection with a type of bacteria which is often found in mud, and polluted water

Some of this disease are spread easily between people, while others are transmitted by
a pathogenic organism (viruses, bacteria, fungi, worms, parasites)

5. SPIROCHETES DISEASE - SYMPTOMS
- muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, blood in urine, breathing problems, etc
- rat bite fever: acute, febrile human illness (caused by bacteria that is transmitted by rats)

6. TREATMENT & PREVENTION OF SPIROCHETES INFECTION
Penicillin
drug of choice in the treatment of syphilis.
Less effective in the late stages of disease ( because irreparable damage had already been sustained)
