2 The Skull The skull is divided into two parts:
The curved flat bones form the calvaria or vault that protect thee brain. The irregular bones of the face give it its individuality and provides protection for the eyes, air passages etc.

3 The Skull Parietal Bone Frontal Bone Occipital Bone Temporal Bone

4 The Calvaria (Vault) These flat bone may be fractured by blows to the skull. ex: hitting the skull on the ice in hockey) Temporal Bone Most fragile bone of the skull Overlies a major blood vessel If this bone is fractured or misplaced, it can cut an artery resulting in a hemorrhage

5 Facial bones External Auditory meatus Zygomatic Bone Maxilla
Mandible Nuchal Line Mastoid process

6 Facial bones Facial Bones are the ones often broken in contact sports due to the rough impact. Some fractures across the maxilla (upper jaw) can leave the lower face separated from the upper face
