2. WHAT IS A BREAKAWAY SIGN SUPPORT?
Breakaway Supports for signs placed alongside the road are designed to break or yield, within a maximum velocity change of 15.4 feet per second when struck by a vehicle, leaving no more than 4” of anchor stub above grade after impact.
A good Breakaway Sign Support System even offers much more.

3. Frangible Breakaway Couplers
These devices are designed to have a “weak link” such as a Shear Bolt or other feature. This “weak link” breaks instead of the sign post or anchor and is quickly repaired, often by one person.

10. REINSTALATION OF KLEEN BREAK
Remove sign support locking wedge from top half of coupler using a hammer
Remove both ends of broken shear bolt from both coupler halves.
Reassemble using Installation procedure.
