Solar eclipse The Moon, lines up exactly between the Earth and the Sun.

Lunar eclipse The Moon is blocked from the Sun’s rays by the Earth.

Parts of an eclipse Total darkness is called the umbra
The outer shadow is partially illuminated by the Sun, and is called the penumbra.

Why not every month? Moon revolves around Earth
Earth revolves around Sun Alignment has to be perfect, that is rare.

Why we have tides The gravitational pull of the moon and Sun
The moon is closer so it affects us more than the Sun.

Tides Tides happen every day! High tides happen every 12 hrs every day
Low tides happen every 12 hrs every day That means every 6 hours you have a high or low tide shift.
