WHY AVID? We are here to support your students with Tutoring
Tutorials to help with hard classes Grade counseling to ensure students are on the A-G track CAHSEE & College test preparation Fieldtrips Motivational activities & speakers A Family at school

Why College? The US Census shows that a bachelor’s degree holder will earn on average $900,000 more salary over a lifetime than a high school graduate. This figure goes up for every additional degree earned. So a good education TODAY can enhance your TOMORROW! Brenda

Attend 1 hour of Study Hall per week.
Student Responsibilities Maintain satisfactory, if not outstanding, citizenship and attendance in all classes. Maintain the AVID binder DAILY with assignments and daily notes in all academic classes. Participate in the AVID elective class willingly, doing all assignments to the best of my ability. Complete all homework assignments and commit to at least two hours of homework every night. Maintain enrollment in college preparatory or advanced placement courses with at least a 2.5 GPA. By the junior year, your GPA should be at least a 3.0. Enroll in at least one honors and/or AP course each year. Prepare tutorial request forms the night before and be ready to turn them in upon entering the AVID classroom on tutorial days. Attend 1 hour of Study Hall per week. Support, Respect, Encourage, and Show Enthusiasm both inside and out of the AVID classroom. Be an AVID leader! Attend AVID events after school hours, such as our AVID Parent Night and the Awards Events. Be an AVID leader and demonstrate outstanding behavior and academics!

Important Tutorial Requests Forms are now due Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Grade Checks are DUE each month. Grade Checks must have a parent signature! Students must log 1 hours of tutoring/ study time each week. Study logs are due at the end of the month. Binder Checks are on Fridays. Binders are to be 2”-3” Agenda, Pencil Pouch, Dividers for each subject

Important! Approval is needed to exit the AVID program. Parent, teacher and student must be in agreement that it is in the student’s best interest to exit AVID. A student will not be exited from AVID by counselor unless a phone or personal conference has been held with parent, teacher, and student. Parental approval is also needed to drop any student from an Honors or AP class. Mr. Kruger

Why are Honors/AP Classes so Important?

5 Major Reasons to Take Honors and AP Classes:
Receive college credit (on AP test scores of 3 and above) Impress College Admission Counselors Develop College-Level Academic Skills Free up your schedule in college to take more elective classes or double major if you want. Save Money! You get a head start on college classes, and you’re more likely to graduate within 4 years.

AVID Parents, we need your financial help so we’re asking for donations from each student. What AVID services would cost you if you paid out of pocket… Brenda

Freshmen Year 60 hours of group tutoring @ $20 per hour
After school $30 per hour 5 hours of group counseling with Mrs. $20 per hour 1 hour of individual $70 per hour College field $20-40 per student Total: $1440+ Brenda

Fundraising Option For parents who are unable to donate, sponsor letters are available. All sponsors who donate more than $25 will be eligible to receive an AVID t-shirt.

Deadline We sent home fliers stating that we would like to have all money by Tuesday September 8, 2015. If you have a donation now, please see our AVID Club reps and Ms. Lawson-Franklin after this presentation.
