1 Answering 4 mark questions

2 I would use questionnaires to investigate why boys underachieve in school. Firstly, questionnaires are best to find out boy’s attitudes because they are anonymous so the boys are more likely to be truthful. Furthermore, questionnaires can be multiple choice so any boys no matter how weak they are would be able to select an answer. Also, they are quick and easy so it would be possible to gain a large sample of boys across different years. It is a more appropriate method than qualitative interviews because boys might get embarrassed, shy or ashamed when asked questions face to face. They might feel like they are in trouble or have been picked on for the interview for a negative reason.

3 These questions will ask you to explain.
Explain …what sociologists mean by socialisation

4 Four sentences: A definition with some development, an example with some further development

5 Socialisation takes two forms, primary and secondary
Socialisation takes two forms, primary and secondary. Primary takes place within the home and secondary takes place in schools, at work and through the media. Socialisation is learning the norms and values of a society. Individuals are socialised differently according to their family, lifestyle and culture. For example, a child socialised in a rich family would be more likely to go to an independent school and they would have more opportunities.

6 Four sentences: Definition: Sociology is an academic subject that seeks to explain how society works by identifying patterns in behaviour Development: The subject encourages students to question and never accept explanations about societal issues without analysing these complex factors. Example: For example, when studying crime and deviance it would be easy to assume that black men are more criminal than other ethnicities because this group is over represented in jails. Further development: However, through careful research it is clear that there are many reasons that help explain why there are more black men are in prison. For example, Stuart Hall (1979) argued that black men were the victims of police labelling and scapegoating.
