1 Metric & Measurement Notes

2 Metric Conversions King – Kilo Henry – Hecto Died – Deca
Unfortunately – unit (gram, liter, meter) Drinking – Deci Chocolate – Centi Milk - Milli

3 Moving Decimals Metric system is based on the number 10.
Conversions only require moving the decimal point to the left or right. Example: 500 kg = ________ cg Decimal is to the right of a whole number. (500. kg) K H D U D C M Decimal needs to move from K to C because of kg & cg. It will move 5 times to the right to reach C. Add that many zeros to fill in gaps, or write down numbers that are present. 500 kg = 50,000,000 cg

4 Measurements Remember to place the zero on the ruler at the edge of what you are measuring. Add the numbers on a triple beam balance to get the mass. Read a graduated cylinder on the bottom of the meniscus for volume. (bottom of the curve of liquid) ALWAYS WRITE A UNIT AFTER THE NUMBER! OTHERWISE IT’S JUST A NUMBER!!
