2. Once you have chosen your title….
Come up with a clear line of argument. You need to establish this before you cane start planning.

3. Once you have your line of argument….
Come up with a list of key areas that would need to be covered.
Examples of areas are:
Presentation of life in the trenches
Presentation of heroism
Presentation of cowardice
Presentation of the Homefront
Treatment of soldiers in battle and on return home
Overcoming trauma/survival
Personal battles
Spoken views about the war
Alcohol dependency
Presentation of relationships between men and women
Do not be tempted to make the following an ‘area’ of your essay:
When each text was written (AO3)
How it was received (AO5)
These are key features that need to be considered throughout the essay.

4. Once you have your Broad Plan….
Organise a logical order for your ideas. (This may change later)
Before you write each section:
Decide on your key comparative points
Decide how it will support your line of argument
Research any critical readings/different readings to include
You could even decide what quotations you will use at this stage
