pg.14 Biotic vs. Abiotic Factors Card Sort
Cut the heading that says “Biotic vs. Abiotic Factors Card Sort” and paste it at the top of the page. Cut two rectangle shapes from the colored paper and tape down 3 of the sides of each, leaving only the top side open, to make 2 pockets. Cut and paste “Biotic Factors” and “Abiotic Factors” to each pocket. Cut all of the descriptions. As a group, go over the descriptions and place them in the correct pocket.

pg.15 Producers and Consumers
Cut the heading that says “Producers and Consumers” and paste it at the top of the page. Cut the two rectangles that say “Producers” and “Consumers”. Cut the pie pieces. As a group, go over the pie pieces that belong to producers and the ones that go with consumers. Put the pieces together to form a pie. Paste the heading “Producers” and its pie pieces at the top half of page 15. Paste the heading “Consumers” and its pie pieces at the bottom half of page 15.

pg. 16 Consumers Cut the heading that says “Consumers” and paste it at the top of the page. Color each flap a different color (it doesn’t matter which color, but each flap MUST be a different color). Now cut the dashed lines only!! Tape or glue the edges of the flippable into your IN. Behind each flap, define the type of consumer and include 2 examples of each. Under the flippable on the lines of the IN, write the 5th consumer that is missing from the flippable, define it, and give 2 examples. (*HINT- detritivores)

pg. 17 Simple Food Chains Cut the heading that says “Simple Food Chain” and paste it at the top of the page. Cut the Food Chain foldable out and glue the edge that says “Food Chain” in your IN. Cut the dashed lines! Behind each flap, label the following: 3rd trophic level, producer, primary consumer, 2nd trophic level, secondary consumer, tertiary consumer, autotroph, heterotroph, carnivore, herbivore, 1st trophic level, and 4th trophic level. Under the foldable on the lines of the IN, write this: All food chains begin with a producer. All food chains end with a decomposer. Only 10% of energy is transferred from one level to the next.

pg. 18 Energy Pyramid and Types of Symbiosis
Cut the heading that says “Energy Pyramid” and paste it at the top of the page. Cut the Pyramid out and color each section a DIFFERENT color and glue it on the top half of pg. 18. Label the pyramid with the following terms: producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers, tertiary consumers, 100%, 10%, 1%, 0.1%, plants, herbivores, carnivores, carnivores that eat other carnivores Cut the foldable for Types of Symbiosis. Glue or tape down the top edge of the foldable to your IN. Cut the dashed lines. You will need a RED, GREEN, and PURPLE color pencil. Put a RED – sign on the flap if an organism in the relationship is hurt. Put a GREEN + sign on the flap in an organism in the relationship benefits. Put a PURPLE 0 sign if an organism in the relationship is unaffected. Under each flap, write the definition of each.

pg. 19 Nitrogen Cycle At the very top of the page write “Nitrogen Cycle” very big. At the top half of pg. 18, write the following: 1. Nitrogen Fixation – (bacteria) Nitrogen gas Ammonia (N2) (NH3) 2. Ammonification– (bacteria) Dead organisms, waste Ammonium (NH4) 3. Nitrification– (bacteria) Ammonia, Ammonium Nitrates, Nitrites (NH3) (NH4) (NO3) (NO4) 4.Denitrification– (bacteria) Nitrates, Nitrites Nitrogen gas (NO3) (NO4) (N2) At the bottom half of the page, cut and paste the diagram of the nitrogen cycle.

pg. 20 Water, Carbon, and Oxygen Cycles
On the side of pg. 20, write Water, Carbon, and Oxygen Cycles BIG on the pink line. Cut diagrams of the water, carbon, and oxygen cycles out and glue them in your IN.

pg. 21 Terms for Cycles At the very top of the page write “Terms for Cycles” very big. On pg. 21, write the following: Water cycle = Hydrologic Cycle Transpiration- evaporation of water from the leaves of plants Precipitation- water traveling from the atmosphere to the ground Ex. Rain, sleet, snow Runoff- water that forms lakes, rivers, and streams Carbon/Oxygen Cycle Photosynthesis- done by plants, changes CO2 into sugars, takes CO2 out of the air Cellular Respiration- done by ALL living things, changes sugars into CO2 , puts CO2 into the air Combustion- to burn something, puts CO2 into the air Carbohydrates- SUGARS Decomposition- When things die, they are broken down and CO2 is put into the air

pg. 22 Factors that Affect Populations
Cut the heading that says “Factors that Affect Populations” and paste it at the top of the page. Cut out all 4 flippables and glue down the top of each to pg. 22. On the front of each flippable, draw a picture that illustrates each factor. ALL pictures MUST BE COLORED!!! Under each flippable, write the following descriptions: Food: Plants make their own food. All other organisms obtain food by eating plants or other organisms. There is only so much food available in an ecosystem. Water: The cells and tissues of animals and plants are made mostly of water. All livings things need water to move materials around in the cells and tissues of their bodies. Water is also limited. Light: Plants make their food by relying on light to carry out photosynthesis. If light is limited, the growth of plants is limited, which will affects consumers. Living Space: Organisms need enough room to live, need to be able to obtain resources and be able to reproduce. The place where an organism lives is called its habitat. changes that occur where there

pg. 23 Ecological Succession
Cut the heading that says “Coastal Sand Dunes Ecological Succession” and paste it at the top of the page. Cut out the 5 pictures of the stages of succession. Put them in order (showing the change in that environment) and then glue into your notebook!!! Cut out the flippable for lichens and glue the top down in the notebook on page 23. Under the flippable, explain how lichens help in the process of creating soil. Also write this on pg. 23: Primary succession- changes that occur where there is NO soil Secondary Succession-changes that occur where the soil is still intact

pg. 24 Habitat and Niche Cut the heading that says “Animals with same habitat, but different niches” and paste it at the top of the page. Cut out the big flippable and glue down the top pg. 24. Under the flippable, describe how the different animals pictured can share the same habitat, but not the same niche. Ex. The deer, squirrel, and rabbit all live in the _________, but the deer gets its food from_________ Also write the definitions for habitat and niche on pg. 23.

pg. 25 Human Impact Vocab Cut the heading that says “Vocabulary for Human Impact on the Ecosystem” and paste it at the top of the page. You DO NOT need to cut out the words “Definitions” and “ Words”. Cut out all the vocabulary words and definitions. Match the words with their definitions and glue them on page 25. The definition should be under its word.
