Choice – Cups or Bowls

2. Cups For this option, you will throw a cups with a handle.
The cups should be a minimum of 4 inches high (This will still be a small cup after firing, so strive for higher!)
The walls should be even and thin
The base should have a trimmed foot
The form should be altered beyond cylindrical form… this is not a redo of the cylinder project!
Think about additive texture, slip decoration, carving or any other element that will add to the overall quality of your piece
The handle should have good proportion, be solidly attached. Be careful of a handle that is too big! Think about how it will fit into the users’ hand
As always, craftsmanship is important!

Too big!
Too clunky or chunky – think about keeping your handle delicate/graceful
Not attached well
Proportion or style doesn’t “match”
HINT – make more than one and try them out before attaching

12. Must have trimmed foot
Walls should be thin and consistent thickness from top to bottom
Weight should not be too heavy, or bottom-heavy
Foot ring is a good way to stop glaze – and a visual stopping point as well as prevention of drips

13. Bowls For this option, you will throw bowl with a trimmed foot.
The bowl should be a minimum of 6 inches high or wide (This will still be a small bowl after firing, so strive for bigger!)
The walls should be even and thin
The base should have a trimmed foot
Think about additive texture, slip decoration, carving or any other element that will add to the overall quality of your piece.
Can you add another functional element such as a spout, handle or punched holes (colander)
As always, craftsmanship is important!
