2. Exciting New Intermediate Pre AP Science Programming
Our Goals:
To provide a flexible pathway to earn high school credit in intermediate school.
To ensure all students receive adequate instruction in 8th grade science content.
To provide an instructional program that will prepare students for the challenges of future AP courses.

5. th Grade Students
If students are not able to take advantage of or cannot complete one of the first 2 options:
Eighth graders may take both Pre AP 8th grade Science and Pre AP Biology concurrently, which is current practice.

6. 8th Grade STAAR Exam or Biology End of Course Exam?
Students taking Pre AP Biology in the eighth grade will be required to take the Texas Biology End of Course Exam. This is the exam required for all students enrolled Biology in the State of Texas.
This exam will be administered in early May 2017.
Students will not be required to take the 8th Grade STAAR Exam. This is an exam taken by all 8th graders enrolled in 8th Grade Science.

8. 8th Grade Pre AP Students 2017 and Beyond…
Curriculum in the 6th and 7th grade will be redesigned to meet the needs of future Pre AP science students.

9. Algebra I Requirement
Students taking Pre AP Biology in the 8th grade are required to take Algebra I concurrently.
The State of Texas requires that Algebra I be completed and that students have passed the Algebra I EOC in order to be enrolled in Pre AP Chemistry in the 9th grade.
