1 Chapter 8 attempt number 1
Pre-calc Chapter 8 attempt number 1

2 But first…. Expectations around solving problems in chapter 7:
Generally speaking, do not use the sine, cosine or tangent buttons on your calculator unless specifically asked to do so. Do set up and solve right triangles Do use the unit circle

3 Example like exit ticket number 2:
Find the exact value of: csc⁡( 𝐶𝑜𝑠 −1 −0.4 ) What is this question asking for? We want the cosecant ratio for the same angle whose cosine ratio is negative zero point four.

4 The problem solving process (in regards to mathematical modelling)
1: What is the question? 2: What information do you need to answer it? 3: Build a model to answer the question, and answer it. 4: Verify/Evaluate the answer 5: Fine tune the model and try again as necessary.

5 Passenger pods on Vegas ferris wheel

6 Worlds largest ferris wheel: Las Vegas

7

8 Questions? A blind stunt team is going to base jump from the Las Vegas Ferris wheel. Even though base jumping world records are about 100ft, they plan to jump when their pods are at least 100meters off the ground. Assuming they load from the bottom, and the Ferris wheel does not stop once started: How many minutes before they can jump? And How many minutes is the jump window open? Answer to the 10th of a minute: (how many seconds is that?)

9 What information do you need to anwer the question?

10 With your team, build a mathematical model, and answer the questions.
167.5m diameter, 22min/revolution, low point of the wheel is 12 meters off the ground.

11 The mental health minute
Please stand Greet those around you in a as many non-English languages as you can. Add in your head as fast as you can. Discuss your strategy.

12 Ch.8 section 1 Solving equations: Expect at least 2 answers.
Process: convert to sine, cosine or tangent Isolate trig function Do inverse trig with calculator to solve Locate quadrant for answer number 2: Use reference angle to calculate answer number 2:

13 Some examples

14 In class practice Pg. 299 Class exercises 1-11.
Then: work on ch.7 homework Start ch.8 homework P299: 1-19odd,

15 Exit ticket Answer the questions on the sheet provided.
Work silently on your own. You may use your notes and your book to help you. Turn in when finished If there is time to spare, continue with the homework.
