New Orleans Defended (South)
3rd British Blow in 1814 occurs at New Orleans (South) Overconfident British (8,000) made the mistake of a frontal attack on entrenched Americans (7,000) under Andrew Jackson Worse loss for the British of the entire war (2,000 wounded/killed) Battle of New Orleans = monumental for US even though it happened 2 weeks after peace treaty. Fought for honor as much as gain. REASONS: Made Andrew Jackson a National Hero Restored honor to the American people after many early defeats Released a wave of nationalism and self-confidence in America
