Beginning of Class Procedures
8/7/14 Beginning of Class Procedures Come in quietly. Find a seat quickly. You will be assigned seats at a later date. Eat your breakfast and read quietly. Breakfast is over at 9:15! We will leave for connections promptly at 9:15 a.m.

8/7/14 E.L.T. Come in quietly. Find a seat quickly. You will be assigned seats at a later date. Take out any necessary supplies. Put everything else under your desk. Open your agenda to page 16 (“Dress Code for Students”) and read before we begin.

8/6/14 Language Arts Warm Up/Opening Session
In your spiral-bound notebook, choose one of the following prompts and write at least one paragraph (five sentences or more). Start on a new sheet of paper and be sure to write your name and today’s date in the upper right corner. Prompt A – What is your favorite memory from elementary school? Why? What made that time so memorable/special? Prompt B – In this, your third day of middle school, how are you feeling? What are your hopes and expectations? Are you feeling better than you did on your first day? Why/why not? 8/6/14

Standard: ELACC6W4 - Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. “Today I will use RAFT writing because it will help me address a topic for a specific audience and purpose.”

8/6/14 Complete your children’s rule book from yesterday. It will be due at the end of class today! R.A.F.T. Writing Activity Role - Teacher Audience - Students Format – Children’s Book (Create one page per rule (8 pages total-front and back) as if you were explaining the rules to a five-year-old.) Topic – Expectations of Students in a Classroom After you have completed your writing, you may illustrate your book.

8/6/14 Ms. Thurman’s Classroom Rules and Expectations Talking ceases the moment you enter the classroom. Have all supplies ready upon entry to the classroom. Sharpen pencils before or after class only. Throw trash away before or after class only. No paper balls! Once you are prepared, immediately begin the Bell Ringer/Warm Up. Always raise your hand to speak. No food, drink, or gum is allowed in the classroom. Be respectful of yourself and of others.
