As we start this Night unit, you might wonder…
How did the Holocaust happen? How can something so horrific happen and no one stops it? How do simple acts of bias evolve into genocide? Let’s figure it out answers to these questions. Color each of the six areas on the “triangle of hate” a different color. Then read the timeline on the Jewish Persecution handout. Color each event the same color according to where you think it connects on the “triangle of hate.”

How do events like the Holocaust begin?
The Holocaust was the end result of the tragic consequences of failing to TAKE ACTION to stop prejudice and discrimination against Jews in Nazi Germany. Genocide does not begin with mass killings; it begins with bullying, name-calling, and discrimination. If not checked, it can end with genocide. During World War II, this failure led to mass murder of millions of Jews in Auschwitz and other death camps
