3. Example Find the area of the following triangle. 10m 5m x m A = ½bh

4. Area problems Hints Remember your units
If the units in the question (eg cm) are different to the units required in the answer (eg m2), change to the required units before you perform your calculations.

5. Hectares A hectare (ha) is the area of a square of side length 100m.
Hectares are used for large areas such as farms.
100m
1 ha = 100m × 100m
= 10,000m2
Example 1
Convert
4·3 ha = m2
5600 m2 = ha
43 000
0·56

6. Example 2 The area of a rectangle is 27·44 m2.
If the length is 4·9 m, find the breadth.
A = LB
27·44 = 4·9 × B
Divide both sides by 4·9
B = 5·6
