Function and Environmental Issues
This act was designed to protect species facing extinction due to human economic growth and development without adequate concern for conservation. Extinction of species such as the passenger pigeon and near extinction of the American buffalo prompted action from wildlife conservationists. Whooping crane also reached near extinction from unregulated hunting and habitat loss. Environmental issues:

Agency/Group responsible for regulation and Enforcement
The ESA is administered by two federal agencies: United States Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The ESA was created by Congress in after urging from President Nixon. Main goal: to protect “the species and the ecosystem upon which they depend”
